Joint module
A sustainable, mutually recognized joint undergraduate module, “European Traditional Musics Beyond Borders”, based on blended mobility.
One of the main objectives of the TUNE project is to develop, test, adapt, and implement an innovative joint module, “European Traditional Musics Beyond Borders”, for traditional music students at the undergraduate level at five European higher education institutions. The format of the joint module will be based around the concept of blended mobility, which the Erasmus Programme Guide defines as a “combination of physical mobility and a virtual component, facilitating collaborative online learning exchange/teamwork”.
There are currently no existing undergraduate-level joint modules connecting European higher education institutions with programs in traditional music. Traditional music programmes at the undergraduate level commonly aim to transmit and sustain local traditional music cultures; a central innovative feature of the joint module will be the effort to share and transmit these locally rooted music traditions in a broader context, through blended mobility. The joint module will seek to embrace the locally rooted, while also transcending it, aiming to introduce students and faculty to the diversity of traditional musics in Europe, while also transmitting their own musical culture to others. The joint module will serve as a new space for exploring the variety of traditional music cultures in Europe, as well as strengthening traditional music education in the higher education sector in Europe.
